FUEL ANALYSIS TESTS

Micro Carbon Residue

This test determines the amount of carbon residue, in the range 0.10% to 30.0% m/m, left after evaporation and pyrolysis of petroleum products under specified conditions.

Carbon Residue  is a measure of the tendency  to form carbonaceous deposits which in engines can lead to stress, corrosion or cracking of components. The deposits of most concern are those which build up in the nozzles of fuel injectors. The amount of carbon in the fuel can be correlated with a tendency to form deposits, hence the use of a carbon residue test.
