MPC - Membrane Patch Colourimetry

MPC is used to measure insoluble contaminants in lubricants.  It utilises solvent extraction to capture varnish and oxide insoluble contents from a sample onto a filter membrane.  The colour spectra of the insolubles collected can be correlated to the amount of oxidation by-products in the oil.  The resultant filter colour is referenced to known standards and rated.

By monitoring the level of insolubles present in lube oil informed decisions can be made regarding the implementation of varnish mitigation technology and subsequent costly downtime avoided.  Continued testing once varnish mitigation has been implemented can be used to help evalute the effectiveness of the technology in use.  The test is primarily used for steam turbines, gas turbines, hydraulic systems and compressors.
